The Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office is reminding the public and registered sex offenders about Louisiana law regarding school bus pickup and drop-off locations.

Under La. R.S. 14:91.2, certain sex offenders whose victim was under 13 years of age are prohibited from loitering within 500 feet of locations commonly used to pick up or drop off children for school or school-related activities.

The restriction applies between the hours of 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. when children are present.

“The safety of our children is a top priority,” Sheriff Aaron Mitchell said. “We encourage parents and community members to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity around school bus pickup and drop-off locations to the Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office.”

The Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office said it will continue to enforce Louisiana’s sex offender laws and investigate reported violations.
