Sabine Parish Sheriff warns residents of parking violation text scam

The Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a new text message scam attempting to collect payments for alleged parking violations.

Sheriff Aaron Mitchell issued the warning on Aug. 5 after a concerned citizen reported receiving a text message from an unrecognized number requesting payment for a parking violation.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the message is fraudulent, and residents should not click any links contained in the text or provide payment or personal information.

Officials emphasized that the Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office will never contact residents by text message to request payment.

Anyone who receives a similar text message or email is advised to delete it and report it as spam.

The Sheriff’s Office also shared example screenshots of the fraudulent messages to help residents recognize the scam and avoid becoming victims.
