Sabine Parish 4-H bass trail opens season at Big Bass Marina

Sabine Parish 4-H anglers recently took to the water at Big Bass Marina for the first tournament of the 4-H Bass Trail season.

Although organizers reported favorable weather, fishing conditions proved challenging for many teams. Anglers continued working throughout the day, ultimately bringing 15 fish to the scales for weigh-in.

In the Junior Division, Aubrey Lacaze and Gabe Killingsworth of Many Junior High earned first place with 2.81 pounds. Kacen Arthur and Luke Meshell of Zwolle Elementary finished second with 2.69 pounds. Meshell also earned Junior Division Big Bass honors with a 2.69-pound fish.

In the Senior Division, Hunter Jenkins and Hampton Hable of Many High School took first place with 10.88 pounds. Mason Campbell and Tyler Wilkerson of Many High School placed second with 4.64 pounds. Haydan Jenkins of Many High School earned Senior Division Big Bass honors with a 2.9-pound fish.

Organizers said most teams caught numerous fish during the tournament, although many were too small to qualify for the weigh-in.

Sabine Parish 4-H thanked the volunteer boat captains who provided their time and fishing knowledge to the young anglers.

George Herr was also recognized for serving as weigh master and helping the tournament run smoothly.

The Bass Trail will continue with its next tournament Saturday, Nov. 21, out of San Miguel.
