A parish-wide burn ban is now in effect in Sabine Parish due to high temperatures and an extended period without precipitation.
The burn ban took effect Friday, Aug. 14, 2026, and prohibits all outside burning throughout Sabine Parish, including the burning of garbage, grass, leaves and brush.
According to the burn ban declaration issued by the Sabine Parish Police Jury, high temperatures and a lack of precipitation have resulted in dangerous fire conditions and an elevated threat to property and residents.
Work-related burning permits must be issued by one of the parish fire chiefs.
Sabine Parish Police Jury President Ronny Bison also proclaimed a State of Emergency within Sabine Parish due to the fire conditions. Emergency preparedness plans and parish hazard emergency operation plans may be activated if necessary.
According to the declaration, violations of the burn ban are subject to penalties of not less than $100 and not more than $500, plus court costs, upon conviction.
The declaration was issued Aug. 14 and will remain in effect until fire conditions improve or for 30 days from the date it was issued.
The Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office advised anyone with questions or concerns about the burn ban to contact their local fire district.
