Beef cattle producers, veterinarians, and agricultural professionals are invited to participate in a new educational webinar series hosted by the LSU AgCenter focusing on emerging threats facing the beef cattle industry.
The “Emerging Threats to the Beef Cattle Industry” Webinar Series will feature expert speakers from across the South discussing disease preparedness, invasive pests, and other challenges impacting cattle operations.
The free webinar series includes the following sessions:
July 21 at 6 p.m.
Role of Cattle Management in Emerging Disease Readiness
Presented by Dr. Chris Womack, Texas veterinarian and rancher.
This session will examine how sound cattle management practices can help producers prepare for and respond to emerging livestock diseases.
Aug. 3 at 6 p.m.
Asian Longhorned Tick and Theileria
Presented by Dr. John Currin, Production Animal Veterinarian at Virginia Tech, and Dr. Dan Cummings, Tennessee veterinarian.
The webinar will focus on the growing concern surrounding the invasive Asian longhorned tick and Theileria, a parasite capable of causing significant health and economic impacts in cattle herds.

Pasture Mealybug
Presented by Dr. Stephen Biles, Extension Specialist with Texas A&M AgriLife.
This presentation will discuss the pasture mealybug, an emerging pest that has become a concern for forage production and pasture management.
The LSU AgCenter encourages cattle producers and others involved in the beef industry to participate in the series to stay informed about the latest research, management practices, and potential threats affecting Louisiana’s cattle industry.
