Sabine Parish man arrested for arson in Spring Ridge Community

Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of James Joel Maroney, 49, of Pleasant Hill, in connection with multiple fires set in a rural wooded area of the Spring Ridge Community over the past two months.

Authorities say Maroney was identified through game camera footage in areas near Spring Ridge Road off LA Highway 175, south of Pleasant Hill. Since early February 2026, approximately 10 separate fires were reported in the area. Detectives collected evidence confirming that Maroney was responsible for at least two of these fires.

Maroney was booked into the Sabine Parish Detention Center on the following charges:

2 counts of Simple Arson

2 counts of Criminal Trespass

No bond has been set at this time.

Sheriff Aaron Mitchell emphasized the seriousness of arson in the parish and confirmed that the Sheriff’s Office will continue to investigate and hold individuals accountable for crimes that threaten public safety.
