Sabine Parish Sheriff Aaron Mitchell reports the arrest of Zwolle Assistant Police Chief Christopher Scott Goodman, 48 of Many, for allegedly staging the shooting of his patrol unit on Oct. 26.
Sabine Parish Sheriff Detectives began investigating the shooting that morning after Goodman claimed a vehicle pulled up behind/beside him and began firing at his patrol unit while he was driving on US Highway 171 near Old Pleasant Hill. Louisiana State Police Troop E investigators were contacted and assisted with the investigation this week. Inconsistencies in Goodman’s story of the events, initial digital and firearm evidence, and statements from other individuals led to probable cause for an arrest warrant for Goodman.
This case remains under investigation as other forms of evidence are obtained and analyzed.
Goodman was booked into the Sabine Parish Detention Center for: Malfeasance in office, tampering with evidence (Felony), Obstruction of justice (Felony), Criminal damage to property ($1,000-$50,000) (Felony), and Criminal mischief (Misdemeanor). No bond has been set at this time.
Goodman is still employed with the Zwolle Police Department, but he was placed on leave after his arrest.
