All-District honors come to 17 Many Tigers

The 2021 Many Tigers football team captured the program’s eighth straight district championship with another unbeaten record in league play last fall, and 17 starters were rewarded with All-District 3-2A honors.

The district coaches voted on the team, released by

Tiger senior running back London Williams was the district offensive most valuable player. Defensive back Tackett Curtis, a junior, was the easy pick as the league’s defensive MVP.

Ten Tigers were first-team selections. Seven more received second-team all-district recognition.

Winning the district title was no small feat, considering Avoyelles reached the state semifinals (losing again to Many) and Red River advanced to the playoff quarterfinals.

But the Tigers’ abundant talent overwhelmed the rest of 3-2A and it showed in Many’s domination of the all-district squad.

“We were blessed to have first and foremost, a great group of young men who bought in, worked so hard, and believed in the mission.  It was wonderful to see 17 of them recognized on the all-district team,” said head coach Jess Curtis.

“London and Tackett are deserving district MVPs. They bookended our offense and defense, respectively, and led the way. But it was more than them. Our offensive line was one of the better O-lines we’ve ever had. Our defensive backfield was definitely as good as any in the state with Tackett, Jay Smart being one of the interceptions leaders in the state, and Tylen Singleton who is one of the best DBs in the state in any class,” said Curtis.

“You bring all that together, get the buy-in we had, the work ethic, and your odds of winning district are pretty good,” he said.

The Tigers finished 13-2, and unbeaten again in 3-2A play.
