Local 8th Grader To Compete In NRA State Championship

ZWOLLE, La – Local junior high student to compete in NRA State Shooting Competition.

Zwolle Jr. High 8th Grade student, Kyra Lynn Lilly, competed in the Louisiana 4-H Shooting Sports Smallbore Rifle, NRA Regionals against 40 other competitors and placed 6th. This earned her the spot in the State Competition for the first time in the competitive career.

Kyra had this to say about the excitement she felt following her incredible performance;

“I love shooting sports and I look forward to it every year. I have liked shooting sports ever since my big brother Matt started competing years ago. I guess I would say that I’m following in his footsteps in a way but my mama has always taught me to make my own footsteps but I have such a great big brother to look up to. I like learning about gun safety and it has taught me discipline and I’ve met lots of new friends thru shooting sports as well. I want to kill a big buck one day and get the biggest one out of Matt and my stepdad! So this gives me great practice. I am so excited to compete at state but a tiny bit nervous but I know I can do it!! I also love Mrs. Nan, Mr. Chris, and Mr. Mike for always helping me and supporting me. Going to practice and competitions and shooting is alot of fun too. 4H is a great club to be in in general. It gives so many opportunities and has so many fun things to learn and do. My mama was was in 4H since 4th grade, myself, and my little brother is in it also. The 4H pledge is very true to it’s words. It’s real life things and I enjoy and I appreciate it so very much.”

Kyra’s excellence in shooting comes from years of practice. According to her mom, Kyra “practices at the sabine parish sheriff shooting range with her coach Mr. Mike Smith and Mr. Chris Pearce” and she is driven to improve her skills consistently.

Kyra’s mom, Holly, is extremely proud of her daughters accomplishments and loves what this program has taught her. “The Northern regionals is a full week of different categories from shotgun,  pistol, archery to hunting skills. It’s a wonderful team to be a part of. It teaches them way more than just shooting…It teaches them discipline, leadership skills, along with many more. Kyra Lynn has made lots of new friends as well”.

Kyra will be headed to State to compete against the best on April 15th in Gonzalez at the Ascension Parish shooting range to compete. We wish her all the best and hope she brings home a win!
