Superintendent Shane Wright recently announced the implementation of the OpenGate Weapon/Metal Detection Systems at all school sites. This system will increase school security measures by effectively scanning all potential entrants for guns and/or other dangerous weapons. OpenGate Detection Systems will be utilized during daily school entry as well as extracurricular and athletic events. The initial installation process has begun and will include all schools over the next few weeks. Sabine Schools utilized the OpenGate Detection System at its first athletic event on Nov. 8 at the Many High football game.
The OpenGate System is a state-of-the-art, fast, efficient, and accurate weapons detection system and is the same system used at professional sporting events, museums, and other venues. OpenGate uses advanced sensors and software to detect weapons, including firearms, knives, and explosives. The system’s design minimizes false positives so that people can move through the security checkpoint quickly and easily.
Superintendent Wright adds, “We are pleased to be able to incorporate this added layer of security within our school system. The wellbeing of our students, faculty, staff, and community is a top priority, and we want to ensure a sense of safety and security while on each of our campuses.”
Funding for the purchase of the OpenGate System was secured through a GOHSEP Grant for each school site. Additionally, a $50,000 appropriation by Senator Alan Seabaugh also contributed to the purchase.
