NSU Associate Professor of Art Corbin Covher provided a family-friendly addition to the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum on Main Street (MoMS) Water/Ways Tour’s stop at the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and Northwest History Museum.
On Saturday, January 8, a group of area children got to create their own water related artwork to take home. Professor Covher, assisted by NSU Art and Theater students Mickayla Love, John Martinez and Mia Clair Huffman, taught the children various art techniques. They learned how to paint and make trees from pipe cleaners, learning as they had fun with their families. All art supplies were provided by the NSU Art Department at no cost to the youngsters. Corbin Cohver and the students of the NSU Art Department are superb ambassadors for their department and the university.
Northwestern State University’s Art Department sponsors “Art Camp” each June in which children are given lessons in making art. It is a fun way for children of all ages to learn new skills and expand their horizons. Interested parents may call Professor Covher at 318-357-4454 for more information.
