They’ve done it once, why not do it again?
The Many Tigers football team posted an overwhelming 61-26 victory at DeRidder last Friday night, powering past a Class 4A opponent on its home field.
Tonight, the season’s third game presents a very similar challenge. Instead of heading south on U.S. 171, Many rolls north out of town on Hwy. 171 to Stonewall to visit North DeSoto High School, another Class 4A team.
Kickoff is 7 p.m., with radio coverage beginning at 6:25 on 99.9 KTEZ FM with Randy Bostian and Brad Ford.
Many (1-1) is ranked No. 2 statewide in Class 2A, with a narrow opening loss to the No. 1-ranked 3A team, Union Parish, before last week’s drubbing of DeRidder.
The Griffins (0-2) have opened against two very good Class 5A football programs, Captain Shreve and Parkway. The Griffins are looking forward to hosting the Tigers. This matchup has turned into a very good and friendly rivalry between neighbors. The game each season usually comes down to one score or sometimes even one point.
The Griffins program is led by veteran coach Dennis Dunn, who features a spread offense – typically a passing scheme – but the Griffins can run out of the spread set.
“Their quarterback is very mobile, has a live arm, throws a good fade, and they also have a good backup quarterback,” said Tigers coach Jess Curtis.
The Tigers have demonstrated a potent offense that relies on a dominating offensive line and talent throughout the backfield.
Many’s defense has given up 42 and 26 points in its two outings, and will be hoping to reduce that yield as the Tigers “play up” in classification for a third straight week. Union Parish certainly presented unique challenges in the opener, and there were obvious strides made on the defensive side of the ball against the Dragons last week.
Tiger fans are encouraged to take advantage of a game that’s nearby.
“They have a great facility, great stadium, and it’s an easy drive up there,” said Curtis. “We hope everyone will come and watch a good game.”
There’s a chance of rain during the day but looks like there’s a good chance the rain will be gone by game time. Either way, their turf field will be ready and it’ll be a clean night. The Tigers will be decked out in all white uniforms.
