Unrestrained Driver Killed in Sabine Parish Crash

MANY, La – On September 1, 2021, shortly after 8:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal crash on U.S. Highway 171 north of Many. This crash killed 36-year-old Clinton Jenkins, of Mansfield.

The initial investigation revealed a 2021 KIA, driven by Jenkins, was traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 171. For reasons still under investigation, Jenkins’ vehicle traveled off the highway, struck a culvert, and overturning. As a result, Jenkins was ejected from the vehicle.

Jenkins, who was unrestrained, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead. Jenkins’ passenger, who was restrained, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital. A toxicology sample was obtained and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained can often mean the difference between life and death.

In 2021, Troop E has investigated 38 fatal crashes resulting in 40 deaths.
