David earns CoSIDA Academic All-District honors

As good as he was on the mound in the 2021 season, right-handed pitcher Levi David may have been even better in the classroom.

A sophomore from Waxahachie, Texas, David was named first-team CoSIDA Academic All-District 6 on Thursday morning, chosen by sports information directors across a 11-state region that includes Louisiana, Arkansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

David, a business administration major, owns a 4.0 grade point average and was the lone member of the District 6 team with a perfect mark in the classroom. His selection to the first team means he will be eligible for the Academic All-American vote later this month.

“I’m so proud of Levi for this honor,” coach Bobby Barbier said. “His improvement on the mound in his time here is only matched by his hard work in the classroom.”

This past month, David was a first-team Southland Conference All-Academic selection, earning a spot on a team that is chosen without regard to position.

David’s place on the team marks the second straight season a Demon pitcher has been named to the team. A season ago, closer Kyle Swanson was chosen as a third-team Academic All-American.

On the field, David struck out 104 batters, tying for the second-most in a single season in school history. He accomplished the feat in just 61 innings, producing a mark of 15.34 strikeouts per nine innings. That mark led the Southland Conference and ranked third nationally.

David also stood seventh nationally in fewest hits per nine innings (5.02) and 49th in the country in strikeouts.
